Engineers Without Borders UK are an international development organisation that removes barriers to development through engineering.
The original branch of EWB-UK, Engineers Without Borders Cambridge was founded in 2001. Its subsequent success in gaining the support of students across the country has given rise to EWB-UK as a national organisation. Today Cambridge remains the centre of EWB-UK operations, providing Cambridge students with excellent opportunities to become involved with the organisation's work.
A smaller team remains dedicated to co-ordinating EWB activities on a local level, organising guest lectures, research initiatives and training courses as part of the university's International Development community.
The latest chapter in EWB-Cambridge's work is the development of three overseas branch projects. Members of the branch are actively engaged in various major projects:
-
The Cameroon Water Project is an effort to work with OK Clean Water and EWB-Cameroon on small water projects in Cameroon.
- The ECO-House Initiative is a design project with the goal of developing a sustainable, low-cost housing system for the developing world.
- The SELCO Project works with an NGO in India to design equipment and machinery to aid development among the rural poor.
For more information on these projects please see their individual project pages or visit www.ewb-cam.org
