Dr Jonathan Fluxman's birthday

Team photo

Please can you contribute towards Max for my birthday.

I would never normally do anything like this for my birthday !  But staff at the small charity Medical Justice, which I am a trustee of, have persuaded me to ask friends, colleagues and family to contribute to Max, a desperately needed computer system.

There is more info about Max here ; http://www.justgiving.com/medicaljusticemax

Medical Justice started as a small organization in 2005 and grew steadily as the need for our work became apparent.  We held an official event in the House of Commons in 2007.  We now deal with about 1,000 immigration detainees a year.  We challenge inadequate healthcare provision in immigration detention and organise for independent doctors to visit detainees.  We deal detainees who include torture victims, pregnant women, and people with communicable diseases. Some suffer from disability, mental illness, and terminal illness. Some detainees are denied medication and appropriate access to hospital.

I am the chair of the board of trustees and I also help train other doctors who intend to visit detainees in immigration removal centres (see photo).  Max will help us record the outcomes for detainees, many of whom are released after Medical Justice involvement.  This will help encourage more doctors to volunteer.

Please contribute - this is a one-off !  And please pass the message on to others.  A contribution towards Max is the best birthday present you could give me.

Thanks you ! Jonathan
