원마일 클로저는 재임스 후퍼의 모험 친구 였던 랍 건틀렛과 재임스 앳킨슨이 2009년 스위스 몽블랑에서 안타까운 사고를 당해 우리와 이별 한 후 시작되었습니다. 랍과 재임스는 한계를 극복하고, 어떤 어려운 일에서도 가능성을 찾을 수 있다는 사실을 많은 모험을 통해서 친구, 선후배에게 몸소 보여주며 짧은 생을 마감 했습니다.

2009년 첫 원마일 클로저 이후 100명 정도의 친구와 가족들은 싸이클을 타며 약 80,000 파운드(약 1억 4천만원)의 기부금을 모았습니다. 소중히 모은 돈은 우간다에 있는 날랑고 학교에 기부되어 지금은 약 500명의 학생들이 배움에 대한 기회를 태어나서 처음으로 가지게 되었습니다. 올해 원마일 클로저 코리아 기부 행사로 모은 돈은 선생님들/학생들의 기숙사, 교실 증축에 쓰여질 예정 입니다.

In September 2015, led by adventurer and Korean TV personality James Hooper, One Mile Closer will ride 1500km Sea to Sky, from the southern Korean city of Yeosu to Nansam Tower in Seoul, via the east coast and the mountains of the north.
One Mile Closer began in 2009, following the tragic death on Mont Blanc of adventurers and friends Rob Gauntlett and James Atkinson. They spent their short lives enjoying the outdoors, pushing their limits, and inspiring youngsters to believe in possibility and opportunity.
Since 2009, over 100 family, friends and supporters have cycled thousands of kilometres and raised over £80,000 for Nalango Secondary School in Uganda, which has been transformed into a thriving secondary school of over 500 pupils. This year’s priorities are classrooms, teachers’ houses and a school kitchen.
