Richard's 2013 MdS Challenge

Team photo

This is not a team page (as the more astute amongst you will no doubt have noticed), but gives you an opportunity to donate to a variety of causes for my pain.

Last time I ran the MdS, in 2008, I ran for the "Facing Africa" - the charity which helps and supports those in sub-Saharan Africa (from Senegal to Ethiopia) who are affected by Noma. Noma is an acute gangrenous infection affecting the face, mostly of children under the age of 6 - 126,000 die each year from the disease, and those that survive are horrendously disfigured.

In March 2012, my wife experienced a stroke, and due to the care and expertise of the stroke unit in the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford she is now back to living normally. This has opened our eyes to the prevalence of strokes in our 'western' society - 152,000 people are affected, just in the UK every year, 25% of whom are under 65.

I am therefore taking on my challenge for both of these charities this year, with Facing Africa to assist young children in Africa and give them a second chance at life, and through The Stroke Association to provide funds for research into the causes of strokes in the UK.

Please donate as you prefer, and thanks for visiting my MdS challenge page.
