This September I will be taking part in the Great North Run in Newcastle upon Tyne, I will be running for charity and will be splitting whatever is raised 50/50 between the RNLI and the Mission to Seafarers.
I grew up in Teignmouth on the south coast and over the years I have had friends and family involved with the RNLI. If I ever settle in one place long enough I too will become involved but for now they will have to settle for my fundraising attempts! Working at sea gives me the upmost respect for these men and women who stop everything at a drop of a hat to save people’s lives and their vision of ending preventable loss of life at sea is one I support.
The Mission to Seafarers cares for seafarers around the world. While my trips at sea are normally fairly short in comparison I have regularly come across crews of various nationalities who regularly leave their loved ones for up to 6 months at a time. Supporting and caring for these crews are just one of the many tasks undertaken by the Mission who help to support the 1.2 million men and women who help keep our global economy afloat.
I’ve had to create two pages because I’m running for two charities (just to make it confusing) so you’ll have to pick one or both to support me. The funds I raise not through online donations I will be splitting proportionally to try and make the donations to either charity as equal as possible.
I’ve started the ball rolling by chucking in £250 of my own money, providing I finish (which I will even if I crawl) I’ll chuck in another £250. So people dig deep and help me support these worthwhile salty causes.
