Canal Canoe Challenge

Team photo

This August Bank Holiday weekend, the usually straight-laced risk-averse sisters Steph Kerr and Rachelle Howard are taking on the rapids of the Leeds Liverpool Canal in an inflatable kayak, paddling for 26 miles (yes, a marathon on a canal in an inflatable) with no training whatsoever.

They’ve never been there in their lives but they’re starting somewhere in Burnley (“Where’s Burnley?”, you ask; “Exactly”, they reply) and will be heading to Botany Bay, dodging discarded shopping trolleys and submerged traffic cones whilst paddling like the clappers to get home before nightfall.

Rest assured, lifejackets have been arranged and a puncture repair kit will be available in the event of shark attack.

To show your support for this event, your sponsorship would be greatly appreciated and if not, please feel free to make your way down to the towpath on the day and see if the inflatable sinks (the odds are it will).

All monies raised go to the Corey Ashcroft Appeal to help 2 year old Corey to get the treatment he needs in the USA and overcome a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
