We decided to raise money by doing something to really challenge ourselves by swimming the English Channel.
We are very pleased to say that we successfully completed our challenge between 7th and 8th August 2017! It was incredibly tough but we swam across the channel in a time of 17 hours and 20 minutes on a spring tide. We did this as a 5 person relay team.
We started this journey to show the children at Southbroom Infants School that with ambition and effort you can achieve anything, no matter how daunting it may seem at first. The children are taught 'If you try, try, try then you can, can, can’ and we definitely put this into practice!
At the end of 2015 we began our training, with some of us literally starting from scratch and it's been tough but we were determined to reach our goal of successfully landing in France no matter what it took.
We swam in basic swimwear, no wetsuits allowed so were really be up against the elements, seasickness...and the jellyfish!
What we have experienced and sacrificed personally is insignificant to some of the challenges faced by the people who will benefit from any money we raise.
We know times are hard but whatever you can give will really make a difference to people’s lives.
