Depaul UK, our national partner for the AstraZeneca Young Health Programme, is the largest youth homelessness charity in the UK. Annually, around 75,000 young people experience some form of homelessness in the UK and are at considerable risk of ill health.
In essence, ‘Give Us 5’ is an five-mile team sponsored walk, which AstraZeneca is promoting nationally to raise money for Depaul UK. Every team that completes the ‘Give Us 5’ team challenge will get us closer to the £20K fundraising target for 2011.
We’ve already mapped out a route for the walk, and set up a Just Giving site, so it’s easy to get involved.
By participating in ‘Give Us 5’, those of you registered for the Global Corporate Challenge (GCC) will also build up steps towards your daily GCC count.

The route
The walk will start at our Macclesfield site (Middlewood Court Entrance) and finish at the Alderley Park site (Mulberry’s). Followed by lunch at Mulberry’s (self funded) ..
To give overall visibility of progress against our target, we have created this ConnectSD Team Just Giving Page for all of our team members to use to collect sponsorship. Every amount is important, whether you make a personal pledge or collect sponsorship from family and friends.
After the walk, each person taking part will be required to log their activity on the AZ Community Support Website. This is to help us demonstrate that the time AZ employees invest in the programme is working hard for the community, and a mandatory requirement of the UK and Global Community Support Policies.
· The money we raise will be used to support Depaul UK’s services, including an initial five-step health check when young people first arrive at a hostel.
· Getting involved in the AstraZeneca Young Health Programme is one way in which we can live the new corporate brand positioning, Health Connects Us All.
· The event is likely to be fun and a great opportunity to connect with your SD colleagues!
Top tips
· If you are registered for the GCC, consider completing the ‘Give Us 5’ team challenge to fundraise for Depaul UK, and building up steps for GCC at the same time.
· Employees who participate in the Give As You Earn (GAYE) scheme may want to consider sponsoring those completing ‘Give Us 5’ using their Charity Aid Foundation (CAF) account. That way AstraZeneca could provide matched funding up to 50% of the value of the personal donation to Depaul UK.
