I will be running, stumbling, crawling around the Reading Half Marathon on the 1st April of this year. My initial motivation for doing so was to get myself fit and stop smoking. However I feel that I should be doing it for something more worthwhile, therefore I want to try and raise some money for a charity. Now I don't really have a charity that is close to my heart personally but one of Isobella's (my daugther's) friends, older brother, Oliver was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2010.
Oliver has endured various operations and 8 months of intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and has shown tremendous bravery and courage throughout, as children with serious illness so often do. Thankfully Oliver has responded well to his treatment and has started along the road to recovery. His family have decided to do everything they can to raise money for CLIC Sargent – who have helped them over the last couple of years and can help other families in the same situation.
From diagnosis to treatment CLIC Sargent have been there every step of the way with supplying specialist nurses who bring treatment to your home to funding CLIC house a home from home where families with children with cancer can stay close to the hospital whilst in for treatment. They also provide grants, play specialists, telephone helplines and also help with future post treatment.
Olivers family have raised a staggering £29,000 for CLIC Sargent over the last 12 months at various charity events under the group name of Dragon 500 - www.dragon500.co.uk . I therefore wish to pick up the baton and continue raising under the Dragon 500 name. If you wish to sponsor me I have set up a just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/teams/dragon500-Ian-Mountford.
I really appreciate any donations that you can afford for this really worthy cause
thanks in advance
Ian
