Thanks for visiting our team fundraising page, in memory of Lola Ella Melia Duncalf. We've joined together to raised money for Alder Hey Imagine appeal where Lola was looked after before she sadly passed away. Lola was the daughter of myself, Lauren Melia and Andrew Duncalf, she was an incredibly happy little girl, always dancing to her favourite songs on the tv and stuffing her face with anything she could get her hands on. Her death came as a huge shock to us as her parents and everybody that knew her. She was just 10 months old when she contracted a rare strain of Meningitis and septicaemia, a strain so rare that doctors said nothing could have helped her once it had gotten into her blood stream. She went from doing her best dance moves on Monday 23rd of January 2012, to being severely ill in the early hours of the Tuesday. Still, nobody not even the doctors could see just how ill she was, as she was very floppy and sleepy. We had a team of medical staff working to find out what was the cause of her illness, but as the strain was so rare it had not been seen before by the hospital's doctors before. Eventually after deteriorating Lola lost her breath and was resuscitated by a crash team. This was the biggest shock myself or Andrew had ever witnessed, we were distraught as it was only then that we all realised just how bad the situation was. She was sedated so that her body could deal with this unknown infection and taken to the Intensive Care unit, where we believe at some point she slipped away. Although, it was not confirmed until Wednesday the 25th of January that Lola was brain dead and we had lost our little girl. As you can imagine, we were inconsolable, and still are. We couldn’t believe that just a few hours before, she had been dancing and shouting away to ‘the hot dog song’ and ‘special agent oso’. She was just beginning to get her top 2 teeth and on the brink of walking. As a mother have been robbed of my right to see my little girl grow up. This is why we cannot let her life be forgotten she brought so much happiness to friends and family and everybody that met her commented on just how happy she was. Although she was only young we need to learn by lola’s way of life and be happy (unless we’re hungry, sleepy or need our nappies changing!) We are doing various activities in order to raise funds for Lola’s headstone, Meningitis and Alder Hey imagine appeal as their help was invaluable when looking after Lola and the friends and family that visited her not only in the hours after her death, but even weeks later providing help and support. On this occasion we are zip wiring across Goodison park for the Imagine appeal, 75ft off the ground. We are expected to raise £100 per person as part of a push to raise £500,000 with the trust ‘Liverpool Unites’ Please give as much or as little as you can, to help ensure other people families, mothers and babies might not have to go through a similar situation in the future. Thank you, Lauren, Lola’s Mama
