At the start of 2012 we decided that we would take on the challenge of cycling the length of the country, fully unsupported carrying all our own camping equipment and a lot of pork pies! Lands End to John O’Groats will take around 2 weeks and about 60,000 calories each.
We want to raise £1,000 each, for two worthwhile children’s charities, Nelson's Journey and Children’s Hospices UK. This equates to roughly £1 per mile and we think will be enough to motivate us on those long hill climbs.
Each of these charities does an amazing job, supporting children and families in very difficult circumstances.
Nelson’s Journey is based in Norfolk, our home county. It supports over 200 children each year who face a significant bereavement such as the death of a parent. It is run by a dedicated and well-trained team. We know that these children cannot go anywhere else for this help and the positive impact that this charity has is amazing. The charity exists entirely from voluntary donations, so this appeal should make a real difference.
The Children’s Hospices UK is another charity close to our hearts. The lifeline it gives to children facing real distressing circumstances makes a difference to whole families. They also rely on public generosity to provide essential services to thousands of terminally ill children.
If we manage to hit our total then we'll do the ride. We will provide the pedal-power, time and energy if you help by giving generously to these deserving children’s charities.
Mike has even said that if we double the target total, he'll wax his legs to make him go that bit faster ;-)
