MYA's Mountain Girls

This summer, Catherine Hughes and Becky Maltby of MYA Consulting will be attempting the national Three Peaks Challenge. This consists of climbing Ben Nevis, the highest peak in Scotland, Scafell Pike, the highest in England and Snowdon, the highest in Wales – all in just 24 hours!

They are doing this in order to raise money for Young Minds UK. With all the 21st century pressures of society, social media and technology it is becoming increasingly important to look after the mental health of our young people. One in ten children and young people, aged 5-16, suffer from a diagnosable mental health problem such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder. That’s an average of three children in every classroom. Young Minds makes sure young people get the best possible mental health support and have resilience to overcome life’s difficulties.

Catherine says: “I love adventures and since climbing Snowdon last year, the Three Peaks Challenge has always been in the back of mind. It seems to require the ideal amount of fitness and endurance to present a real yet achievable challenge – but a lot of training will still be needed in both of these aspects before we are ready!”

Becky adds: “Two years ago, I completed The Isle of Wight Challenge, walking the circumference of the island, a total of 65miles. It was challenging but rewarding. I now feel it’s time to try an even more challenging event. I’m confident that I can cope with walking the distance, but I’m not sure about all that elevation – the uphill part!

Young Minds UK is a fantastic charity to be raising funds for. Young people between the ages of 5 and 16 are put under a great amount of pressure to do well, achieve and fit in with the ‘norm’. A close relative of mine suffered with anxiety at the age of 13-14 and the positive change that was achieved once they received support from a professional was amazing.”

The challenge will take place on the 16th July 2019. Join Catherine and Becky on their journey, as they begin planning for the challenge. If you would like to support them, please donate as much as you can.

Remember: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never share them with anyone or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. They'll make sure Gift Aid (an additional 25%) is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer, too.
