“Whosoever provides someone water in a place where there is already water present, is like one who has freed a slave. And whosoever provides someone water in a place where there is no water present, is like one who has granted life to a soul; and whosoever grants life to a single soul, it is as if he has granted life to all of mankind.” (Imam Sadiq (A.S.))
SIMCares would like to invite the children of our Madressa to participate in a project that will:
1. Help them appreciate the essence of water in Allah’s creation and its central role in our taharat. In so doing we would like to get the children to cut waste in their use of water. 2. Having achieved this, we would like to act upon the beautiful hadith above, and participate in a Walk for Water, to fund the building of wells in villages in Tanzania. While access to clean water is a blessing that we take for granted, sadly, 1.1 billion people in the world are deprived of this basic human right. Five thousand children a day die due to the lack of access to clean water or basic sanitation. In wanting to restore this basic human right and appreciating Imam Hussein (as)’s stand for justice against tyranny, the Shia Ithna-Asheri Madressa is holding a 30 minute sponsored walk on July 10, 2011. Students will complete a half-hour walk around the Stanmore Rugby field carrying 5 litres (this may be reduced for younger children) of water in sympathy of the plight of children worldwide who have to walk an average of 6 kilometres to access and bring back clean water to their families. All funds received will go to WIPAHS, a Shia charity based in Dar es Salam, Tanzania to fund the Kerbala Shallow Wells Project. Through the Kerbala Shallow Wells Project, WIPAHS has dug 218 shallow wells in Dar es Salam and the surrounding areas - providing sustainable access to clean water to thousands of families, enhancing crop yields, lowering the incidence of water borne illness and freeing up children to go to school. . The cost of building a shallow well providing water to a few hundred villagers is approximately £2,000, while the cost of building a tube well providing water for a few thousand villagers in Tanzania is approximately £6,000. We urge you to encourage your children to participate in the walk by obtaining sponsors and partaking in the walk. The Walk for Water will be held at the Madressa on 10 July as part of the Al Mahdi Day commemoration (during normal Madressa hours) Insha Allah, with your active support, the Walk for Water will be the perfect opportunity for students to practically apply the lessons of charity and social responsibility learned in the Madressa into their daily lives.
