In April this year we, the ‘Tendulkar Express’ rickshaw team, made up of the three intrepid (foolish) members Fletcher Sunde, Helen Turnwald and Melanie Webster, will pack up our rucksacks and head off on the worlds most extreme and adventurous rally, the Rickshaw Run – traversing the length of India in two weeks on little more than a glorified moped. 25 teams, 3500kms, 1.3 billion Indians, 300 million sacred cows and 3 very intrepid Kiwis.
Why? Well…
Apart from being the adventure of a life time the main focus of the rally is to raise money for charity. The idea is to raise at least £500 pounds for ‘FRANK Water’, the official charity of the rally (sets up clean water projects in some of the worlds poorest communities), and £500 pounds for a charity of our teams choice. We have chosen to support Mercy Corps, a top rated and innovative charity working in the worlds most at need areas. Mercy Corps take a holistic approach to problem solving, working in areas such as agricultural development, emergency response, economic development, health, environmental stewardship and microfinance.
Please donate any amount that you are able, keeping in mind the high likelihood of death, or severe injury, as well as the inevitable navigational failures, breakdowns (both emotional and mechanical), cultural faux pas, Delhi belly and serious traffic offences which you can look forward to hearing about as we update our blog throughout the rally.
Thanks for your support - we’ll try to keep you updated on our (mis)adventures at http://rickshawrun12s.theadventurists.com/index.php?mode=teamwebsites&name=tendulkar-express&page=blog
Regards,
Tendulkar Express Rickshaw Team
