The 2012 Mad Mad Mad Challenge

Team photo

A year ago we launched the 2011 Great Butts of Fire Challenge and successfully raised over 50 000 Euros for The Teenage Cancer Trust, Whizz-Kidz, New Ways and the Alzheimer Society.

The challenge was a two days racing event, l'Ardéchoise, which took place in extreme weather conditions and intense physical efforts, over 300 km of uphill struggles and downhill madness.

We can all confirm how appropriate the name of the challenge was (and still vividly remember it)!

It is now time to launch the 2012 MAD, MAD, MAD Challenge for Make A Deed, Make A Donation, Make A Difference.

The teams will face 6 challenges over 5 months, starting in May with six 10 km runs in 60 hours to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Garwood Foundation, followed in June with l'Ardéchoise, then July with l'Etape du Tour de France on July 8th (Albertville-La Toussuire, including the 26 km ride up Le Col de la Madeleine, where many cyclists egos are buried), August will see one of us run the Bad Water Trail across the Death Valley in California, 215 km in 36 hours, followed in September by the Millau 1OO km run, and to cap this flurry of physical madness we came up with our last challenge in October, the 1000 km Indoor Rowing Challenge which will very likely take place in London.

Our target this year is to at least double last year's achievement and reach 100 000 euros or sterling.

Team members are AXA IM's colleagues, friends and colleagues from the financial industry as well as personal friends or family members. As a matter of fact we are still building the team for the Rowing Challenge in October so please do not hesitate to contact me or Lee Sanders directly for more information. Of course we welcome any ideas which can help raising funds.

Whizz-Kidz provides disabled children with mobility equipment they need to lead fun and active childhood and be...kids, the Teenage Cancer Trust is devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer, New Ways supports projects in Kenya, Ethopia and Mozambique in order to provide some of the world's poorest people with the basic needs of life - clean water, a decent level of nutrition, basic healthcare and sustainable agriculture - as well as education and student sponsorship, Cleft aims at improving the care of patients with cleft lip and palate in the UK and overseas in Uganda, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or Egypt. The Garwood Foundation is a small, independent Charity in Croydon which provides very specialised educational services and support to children and adults with a wide range of severe disabilities. Last but not least Make A Wish enriches the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions by granting them wishes and make their dreams come true.

And please remember all challenges are funded by the participants themselves.
