We will be driving from the UK to Ulaanbaatar (the capital of Mongolia) in July, August and possibly even September of 2015, and as if the near 10,000 mile journey wasn’t daunting enough we’ll be doing it in a tiny Suzuki Ignis. Admittedly the Ignis is yet to prove itself when it comes to cross-terrestrial ability but we’ve got more self-belief than you can shake a stick at, so we won’t be letting that hold us back.

The Mongol Rally is an amazing charity event organized by ‘The Adventurists’ (http://www.theadventurists.com/the-adventures/mongol-rally), who promote a keen sense of adventure and challenge in its participants. They also host a range of different charity rallies, and have a wealth of experience to share with its members. They support a charity called Cool Earth (http://www.coolearth.org/) who use pioneering techniques to save the rainforests, such working with the indigenous population rather than throwing at them what is essentially coloured paper for all the good it does them. We happen to quite like the coloured paper, but each to their own.
What it's all for
As part of the rally, each team must raise a minimum of £1000 for charity, of which half goes to Cool Earth. We also wanted to support a more local charity and having heard about the amazing work Wintercomfort For The Homeless we realised we had to do our bit to help them. We will be splitting the donations between each charity and while we only have to raise £1000 overall, we’d like to raise £1000 for each!
When it comes to legacy, we know it may seem a bold statement, but all we hope is to inspire people the way that we have been inspired, and make everyone we can aware that it’s a big, wild, beautiful world out there and it would be a crying shame to not see at least some of it. Here's what your money will do!
Cool Earth
Your money will go towards preserving precious regions of the Amazon rainforest. For example, £60 will save an acre of The Ashaninka region of the Peruvian Amazon. This covers 44 mature trees, 190 saplings, 6 endangered species of animal, 322 types of plant and 11,000 species of insects and worms
Wintercomfort For The Homeless
Wintercomfort supports men and women in Cambridge who are homeless or vulnerably housed by offering them vital welfare service and opportunities for learning and development. Their great work helps some of the most vulnerable in our society get back on their feet.
If you donate not only will you feel satisfied having helped these two great causes, you’ll also receive a handy reward/thank-you for donating.

£40 – A piece of the Gobi Desert. We’ll bring back a jar of the finest sand the Gobi Desert has to offer, just for you – and anyone else who selects this donation level…
£60 – Song of the day. Select the song we place on repeat for a whole day of driving. That’s right, Miley Cyrus can be on repeat for over 8 hours.
