White Cross Vets 3 Peaks Challenge

All completed the route in under 12 hours, which is especially pleasing as not everyone is a regular hill walker.

Five team members from White Cross Vets in Guiseley (vets, James and Vanessa Wood and Roderick Beardshall, plus nurses Amanda Hatfield and Holly Roberts) were joined by Cate Titterton, vet from Redcar White Cross and Lenka Beardshall (Rod's husband) and Dave Gibson (Amanda's partner). Also present were James' and Vanessa's border terrier, Pip who enthusiastically tested the depths of the boggy bits, of which there were many, and Holly's large and amialble cross breed, Buddy who provided some much needed uphill traction at strategic moments!

The day started with an ascent up Pen-y-ghent in drizzle and low cloud which defied the weather forecast to continue well past mid-day. This together with the bogs made the first half of the walk heavy going and it was frustrating to find that the most waterproof pair of boots doesn't keep the water out as your foot sinks shin deep into the mud! On reaching the top of peak two, Whernside, there were enough breaks in the cloud to give views over Morecambe Bay, and then as tiredness began to take over, some glorious weather kept us all going up the final and steepest ascent up Ingleborough.

Particular thanks are due to James and Lenka who both contributed home baking to keep the energy reserves topped up, and also to Craig and Val for meeting up at the road crossings and being available with rescue transport, fortunately not needed. The biggest thank you is for those who have contributed to the amazing total we have raised so far.
