Why your donation matters
In the UK more children living with long-term complex health conditions than ever before:-
Every 30 minutes a baby is born with a genetic disorder Every day 10 families are told the news that their child has cancer Every week 90 babies are born with congenital heart disease Every year 1200 children are born with a rare condition
Caring for a seriously sick child can be truly devastating for the entire family - the all-consuming anxiety, the financial worries, the isolation, the terrible moments when parents think they may lose their child, the relentless care routines, the long periods in hospital, the strain on relationships and juggling the needs of other children.
Please donate now to help WellChild help sick children and their families across the UK.
Case study: donations in action
When Maisie was born she was diagnosed with a rare disorder which could affect her breathing, speech, walking and coordination for the rest of her life.
Her parents were desperate to take her home the complex care needs – Maisie is fed through a nasogastric tube - meant a long stay in hospital.
The family met WellChild Nurse Rhian, one of our specialist children’s nurses offering practical care and emotional support for seriously ill children and their families.
Rhian put in place all the care and support needed to allow Maisie to leave hospital and thanks to her efforts, Maisie and her parents now have feeding equipment and the help of physios, speech therapists and community nursing support to provide care for Maisie at home.
Maisie still needs regular trips to the hospital and doctors will not know the full extent of her condition until she is older but for now Maisie's parents' wish has come true - Maisie is being cared for at home with her family around her.
