Afrikaya owns a plot of land in New Yundum, The Gambia, and raises money to maintain and finance a 5 classroom nursery school they have built from scratch, to provide education for children age 3 - 7 who would otherwise struggle to receive education. The school opened its doors on 5 January 2015 and has 166 students, 84 of whom are sponsored. The children also receive a daily hot meal and primary heath care. The charity employs 14 Gambian staff at the school, several of whom would otherwise be unemployed. Fundraising helps pay staff wages, all school materials, upkeep of the buildings, and all on-going costs. We are currently fundraising to build the children’s playground and to carry out repairs and improve the infrastructure to avoid water damage from the increasingly heavy rainstorms.
