Baby Basics Northampton is a volunteer-led charity supporting new parents and newborn babies experiencing vulnerable circumstances across Northamptonshire. We support 1 in 14 babies born in Northamptonshire, providing essential Moses Basket starter packs to families referred by NHS midwives, health visitors, social workers and other professionals. Families may be referred because of financial hardship, housing insecurity, isolation, domestic abuse, refugee status, teenage pregnancy or other challenges. Our aim is simple: to ensure no baby is without a safe place to sleep or the essentials needed for a healthy and dignified start in life. Each basket is lovingly prepared as a gift and includes bedding, baby clothing, blankets, nappies and toiletries, alongside essential maternity and personal care items for mum.The impact can be life-changing. One parent told us: “I felt like I didn’t deserve such a precious little thing, because I couldn’t provide the basics for him.” After being referred to Baby Basics, she described the relief when a basket arrived containing “everything and more we could have ever hoped for.” A simple basket of essentials can replace fear and shame with relief, dignity and hope. But demand continues to grow, making local donors and volunteers vital in ensuring families receive the support they need when they need it most.
