In March 1992 Arthur Scandrett founded the Arthur P. Scandrett Disabilities Scholarship Fund with the express purpose of helping financially needy, disabled students. The only scholarship fund of its kind has raised over $70,000 and has helped nearly 100 students in their educational journey at Howard University.
Scandrett(B.A. 69) has had a steady decline in health over the last decade in addition to his 40 year battle with multiple sclerosis. Most of the board members who helped turn this vision into a reality 30 years ago have passed away. Scandrett's eldest grandson, Sir Aimézing is determined to revamp the scholarship fund and continue the legacy his grandfather started.
My grandfathers scholarship event in 1997 at Howard University is where I discovered my purpose. My voice. Ive always been in awe of whats hes accomplished. Not just because of the time period he found his success in, but because no matter what he never let the wheelchair get in the way of him enjoying life, helping people while maintaining his independence. My efforts to bring this scholarship back are fueled because I want to give my last living grandparent his flowers and help more students become heroes in their families.
