Story

For over twenty years, SOY has brought our community of supporters and allies together to CELEBRATE and raise funds for LGBT2SQ youth. This annual fundraising event usually took the form of a BOWL-athon but, due to the pandemic, went online in 2020 with the successful QUIZ-athon. This year we're holding another successful online event filled with games, entertainment and prizes, and we want you there!

EVENT DETAILS

Join SOY staff, youth, supporters and allies on Thursday, October 21 at 7 PM and PLAY a lively and exciting online game of Drag Bingo hosted by drag performer extraordinaire, Selena Vyle.

Selena Vyle is a storyteller, comedian, singer and dancer, who is known for her political performances and social commentary. This Canadian Comedy Award winning queen has made a splash at several festivals including Just For Laughs Montreal, Toronto Sketchfest and We're Funny That Way. She's the co-host of the Canadian Podcast Award winning Squirrel Talk Podcast and a member of comedy drag house, the House Of Lix.

So let those virtual balls roll, fill in that online card, and get ready to scream Bingo (and why not do it all in your best drag)! Plus, whether you're playing on a team or on your own, you'll have a chance to WIN some amazing prizes including two round-trip tickets to anywhere WestJet flies!

But that's not all! You'll also enjoy great entertainment with performances from our event host and some of our amazingly talented SOY youth. All of this while you SUPPORT the health and well-being of LGBT2SQ youth and young adults.

ABOUT SOY

As a program of Sherbourne Health, Supporting Our Youth (SOY) is an innovative and award-winning community development program offering holistic support and diverse services to address the complex needs of LGBT2SQ youth 29 years old and under in our community. Through SOY, LGBT2SQ youth are provided with mental health and wellness programming, goal planning and housing supports. SOY creates opportunities for youth to build resilience and confidence, improve health knowledge, and access community resources through group-based and one-to-one supports. SOY offers a safe space where youth can feel nurtured, understood and heard which is essential to their overall wellbeing.

Please help us raise critical funds for these LGBT2SQ youth by asking your friends and family to sponsor you or your team.

"The SOY program was a springboard for me to get on my feet in the big city of Toronto! Moving here as a queer and trans teenager on the run from an abusive and transphobic home environment, attending the SOY program when I got into Toronto helped me find community and support. I was able to access health care services, get fed regularly, and learn about issues relevant to the LGBTQ+ community. Now a university student, activist, and member of SOY's Speaker's Bureau, I am sure that the relationships, support, and skills I gained through SOY are what helped put me on a positive and healing path." - Markus, SOY participant

Sherbourne and SOY has definitely changed my life for the better. It has changed me because they have provided food, tokens, support, and recreation and in a time of stress. For times of stress for trans newcomer youth, like myself, it is very important to come (to SOY) and to forget about the stresses of life or to have someone hear them out and provide guidance, and ease the stress, or to give hope." - SOY participant name withheld by request
