It is one of the largest remaining intact blocks of wet-mesic flatwood forest in the State of Michigan, which is one of the rarest forest types in all of Michigan. The acquisition of all of the remaining parcels totaling 148.67 acres will protect them and their rare ecological habitat before they are destroyed and developed.
