Six Rivers is raising funds to support a $450,000 challenge grant from the Carls Foundation to help fund additional acquisitions for our Anchor Bay Woods Preserve in New Baltimore. Each dollar will be matched 100%

Story

The Anchor Bay Woods Preserve is a critical resource for protecting water quality in Anchor Bay and Lake St. Clairits wetlands directly feed Lake St. Clair. It is one of the largest remaining intact blocks of wet-mesic flatwood forest in the State of Michigan, which is one of the rarest forest types in all of Michigan. The 319.75 acre forest is located in New Baltimore, east of County Line Road, and north of Green Street (M-29). The complex provides significant wildlife habitat with two fish spawning streams that empty into Anchor Bay, a diverse forested wetland complex, and a critical location along the major Huron-to-Erie migratory bird route at the confluence of the Atlantic and Mississippi Flyways. It has been recommended as a priority for acquisition and preservation by the Michigan Natural Features Inventory (MNFI).
