For 34 years, Horton’s Kids has empowered neighbors in some of DC’s most under-invested communities with the education, resources and support needed to thrive.
We focus on four key program pillars – academics, youth development, health and wellness, and family and community engagement – to ensure that every child graduates from high school ready for success in college, career, and life. Our holistic approach also connects parents and caregivers with wraparound services and resources to ensure household stability.
The impact of our programs is dramatic: Participants who enroll in Horton's Kids programs are twice as likely to graduate from high school compared to their peers living in the same communities.
Horton's Kids currently reaches 600 children and families each year in Wellington Park and Stanton Oaks – two Southeast DC neighborhoods profoundly impacted by decades of disinvestment and barriers to opportunity.
The opening of our third community resource center in, Horton’s Hub, in Anacostia in February and approval of a new five-year strategic to leverage the Hub and our two other place-based community resource centers positions us for greater impact. In the next year, we plan to grow from 225 participants in our programs to 300 as we expand our services within the 1/2 mile radius of our new Hub.
