Story

In 1992, Kids Beating Cancer Founder Margaret Guedes' 9-year-old son, John, lost his four-year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) after two bone marrow transplants failed to cure this deadly disease. Determined to turn tragedy into a legacy that would help other children beat AML and other similar life-threatening cancers, Kids Beating Cancer was born. Since John's death, very little progress has been made in the treatment of AML, and sadly only 4% of national funding supports pediatric cancer research. YOU change the odds and advance treatments for AML, and save the lives of our precious children.

Now 28 years later a CURE FOR AML IS POSSIBLE!

100% of the money raised for the Kids Beating Cancer 6 Feet Apart Together for a Cure campaign will support promising research for AML. The research being done by Dr. Juan Varela, uses modified T-cells to hunt down and kill leukemia cells saving the life of an AML patient. This is now entering the final phase, clinical trials. Your contribution will support the clinical trials and push this exciting, lifesaving treatment across the finish line! Dr. Juan Varela is a member of the AdventHealth Research Institute located in Orlando.
