Story

Reports show a collapsing glacier has caused a devastating flood in northern Nepal. The impact of the disintegrating rock and ice was so powerful it had the magnitude of a moderate earthquake,[MM2.1] with debris then surging downstream. Waters rose without warning, leaving children and families with almost no time to reach safety.

Villages, homes and lives have all been destroyed. Over 300 people have already been reported dead, with 900 still missing. These numbers keep rising – and now experts are warning that there could be a second flood coming.

Roads and bridges have been swept away, and many areas are without power, internet, or mobile connectivity, making it hard to get a clear picture of the crisis – and even harder to reach those who need help.

But we know what children need when disaster strikes – shelter, food, water, healthcare – and we’re already there, racing to get emergency supplies to the families who need them most.

Just imagine what children in Nepal are going through right now. The shock, the fear, the confusion. Imagine watching your entire village being swept away in an instant. Many were on their way to school, others just starting classes. Some travel for miles to get to school and will be confused and alone, unable to get home because of blocked roads.
