Help the Police Athletic League in NYC provide PLAYSTREETS this summer! PAL helps youth in the five boroughs via their centers, sports, after-school programs and so much more. Funding has been cut due to the pandemic and PAL needs your help to raise money for 2021 PLAYSTREETS.
Normally, PAL would run 15 PLAYSTREETS during the summer and this year, our goal is to have 3-5 PLAYSTREETS. An example of one that needs funding is on 196th in the South Bronx which PAL has run for 30 years in collaboration with the DOE, Fordham Bedford Community Services Organization and Our Lady of Refuge Church. There is no local park so this PLAYSTREET may be the only safe place in the neighborhood for youth to engage in fitness activities; this is also important for their mental health during these challenging times.
PAL PLAYSTREETS are safe, no-cost, outdoor recreational opportunities for low-income youth ages 5-18 during the summertime, encouraging them to be active. Goals of a PLAYSTREET are to increase safety of outdoor spaces for youth, decrease youth idle time and increase youth and police interactions. Allowing youth to interact with NYPD officers fosters positive interactions within communities where trust is often an issue.
Want to help kids and teens create a better relationship with police and have some safe fun this summer? Make a gift and know that your donation will go towards hosting PLAYSTREETS which are free to the community and help youth interact with local police officers. Allowing youth to interact with NYPD officers fosters positive interactions within communities where trust is often an issue.
