Building Goodness Foundation is a nonprofit construction organization based in Charlottesville, VA. We connect skilled volunteers from the construction industries with local and international opportunities to use their professional skills for a good cause.

Story

Building Goodness Foundation is excited to partner a second time with Seeds for Progress on a project in the community of Zapotal, Guatemala. Seeds for Progress is a non-profit organization committed to transforming lives through quality education in coffee communities within Central America. They work very closely with the Guatemala Ministry of Education to improve public schools in these coffee communities. They have asked Building Goodness Foundation for help improving the infrastructures of up to 24 public schools.

Seeds for Progress believes that “education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty in these rural communities; without enhanced educational possibilities, teens are forced to choose between leaving their families and communities in search of educational and economic opportunities, or remaining in their villages and facing a life of subsistence farming, limited opportunities, and likely early marriage and children. SFP connects children in coffee communities to schooling, health, and information they need to create new opportunities and build a future.”

The school in the small village of Zapotal is the second in what will hopefully be a series of projects with this partner. The new school will provide clean and comfortable classroom space and functional bathrooms for the community. The first school in Sampaquisoy is to be completed soon! Building Goodness Foundation has almost completed work on a new bathroom facility for the Sampaquisoy school that will provide clean, functional facilities for almost 200 students a year.

This fundraising campaign will offset travel expenses for BGF volunteers who travel to Guatemala to work on the Seeds for Progress school project in Zapotal. While we use Guatemalan workers where we can, we supplement local labor with the skills of construction volunteers from the US. Your donations help us to send more volunteers to accomplish this important work! Everyone deserves an education in a quality school with the proper facilities, and you can help us to accomplish that.
