Ten years ago, in May 2016, Grace attended her first L’Arche walk while her older sister was a live-in assistant at Dayspring House. During the event, she encountered the simple joy and genuine hospitality that are at the heart of the community, and she witnessed firsthand how the walk both celebrates the gifts within our community and raises essential funds to support its needs.
Core members get ready for the walk weeks in advance fundraising, creating, prepping for their roles and inviting friends. What joy it must bring to see their families, support staff, friends, co-workers, neighbors and passers-by come together to recognize that the life they live and the gifts they offer are worth celebrating.”
This connection is what initially drew her to become an assistant in the community and eventually led to her current role as our Events Coordinator. Russell Thiessen, who has attended since the first Walk with L’Arche event in 2005, agreed, sharing how much he loves that his friends show up to walk with him every year.
It’s fun when it’s all of us walking together- the interactions, the kinds of stories you share,” explained William, a House Reference Person with L’Arche who enjoyed his first Walk with L’Arche event last year. “You get to meet new people. We have an identity as we walk- there’s L’Arche t-shirts, L’Arche signs - the community recognizes that L’Arche is in the neighborhood.”
Our 22nd Annual Vickar Automotive Group Walk with L’Arche event will be held on Sunday, May 3, at Park City West Community Centre (115 Sanford Fleming Road). Registration opens at 2 p.m., and we will gather at the start line to set off at 3 p.m., with the choice to walk or roll along a 1 km or 5 km path down the Transcona Trail.
Following the walk, join us to celebrate with a BBQ meal, live music, entertainment, prizes to win, and a performance put together by our core members!
Registration is open to everyone and costs $15 for adults and $10 for children, which includes the food and festivities following the event. Early registration is encouraged and can be completed by mail, online, in person at the L'Arche Winnipeg office (118 Regent Ave E), or via email at office@larchewinnipeg.org. When you sign up before April 3, 2026, and raise a minimum of $100 in pledges, you’ll receive a free Walk with L’Arche T-shirt as our thank you!
