Watershed's residencies offer a powerful combination of time, space, and community that have changed artists lives and work for more than thirty years. Small groups of artists share meals, live alongside one another, and enjoy 24-hour studio access in open-concept spaces that invite interaction and collaboration.
However, some of our current buildings pose a host of challenges, including a lack of full accessibility or security, and no weatherization. Our old studio - which was originally a chicken barn - lacked insulation, heating, and winterization and constrained our program season to late May through September. It was also located on the second floor of the building and was only accessible via stairs.
In 2020, with our residential programs on hold due to COVID-19, Watershed's leadership took the essential step to pursue building a new, 7,500 square foot studio that will offer artists a state-of-the-art space to work and connect with other makers. Construction on the Windgate Studio began this past fall and we are on track to open this June for artists.
Features of the new studio can be seen here and will support an expanded residency and workshop season and increase our ability to partner with colleges, schools, and other regional organizations.
Generous donors have helped get this project underway, but we still need help to fully fund this transformative space. Every gift matters and will be recognized on our studio donor wall. Be a part of Watershed's future; Your contribution will make a positive impact on artists for years to come.
