About us
The objects of the CIO are to relieve the needs of individuals who are
awaiting or have undergone heart and / or lung transplantation and their
families and individuals affected by serious cardiac and respiratory
conditions by providing non-clinical emotional, practical and general
health and wellbeing support designed to improve their health and
wellbeing, reduce isolation and support recovery, in particular but not
limited to the following:-
Peer support from people with lived experience, both face-to-face and
online, helping patients manage anxiety, isolation, and emotional distress;
Practical support, including patient hampers containing essential items
such as toiletries, tea, coffee, biscuits, and comfort resources to assist
their stay during hospital care;
Family support, including resources for children visiting hospital, to help
maintain family contact and reduce stress; and
Where resources allow, assistance with accommodation near transplant
centres to support families staying close to patients during recovery.
