About us
Sea Mills Community Initiatives (SMCI) is a Bristol-based charity that has been bringing people together since 2009. What started as a vision to transform a disused toilet block into a community cafe has grown into a thriving organisation at the heart of Sea Mills.
Today we run Cafe on the Square, a welcoming and affordable space open six days a week offering regular connection and support. We manage a local hub in the former Sea Mills Methodist Church, facilitating over 25 local groups and our community garden provides a space for residents of all ages to grow food, learn new skills, and connect with nature. Each year, more than 70 volunteers support our work, and our community events and celebrations welcome hundreds of visitors.
We offer regular social activities including our Tuesday warm space coffee morning and Wednesday Friendship Cafe for women, creating spaces where people can connect, feel supported, and belong. Alongside our own projects, we support a range of local initiatives including those that provide activities and opportunities for young people and families in the neighbourhood. We are especially committed to those who need us most: older residents, young people, and those facing ill-health, disability, or financial hardship.
Your support helps us keep our doors open, run more activities, reach more people, and continue building a stronger, better served and more connected neighbourhood.
