About us

Ashton Court Mansion is one of Bristol's most extraordinary historic buildings — a Grade I listed manor house with over 500 years of history, sitting at the heart of one of the city's most loved green spaces. Bristol Historic Buildings Trust (BHBT) was founded to do one thing: bring it back to life. Using a legacy left by the late Norman Routledge — a passionate advocate for Bristol's historic buildings - we've been working with Bristol City Council towards securing a long-term 125-year lease on the mansion. We're not there yet, but we're closer than ever. Right now we're occupying the building on a meanwhile basis — making it watertight and safe, hosting events and engaging the community — while we raise the funds needed to secure the lease by Autumn 2026. Currently 75% of the mansion is derelict. Our vision is to change that: to create a living civic space built around heritage, creativity, culture, food, nature and skills. Not a museum — a place for everyone. Commercially sustainable, community-owned and open to Bristol for generations to come. This is a long-term project requiring at least £20m from grants, commercial activity and community investment. Our Community Share Offer launches in July 2026, giving everyone the chance to become a co-owner. But we need your help now. Every donation brings us closer to securing that lease and beginning restoration. Heritage. Creativity. Community. A place for everyone.
