About us

WHO WE ARE Damayan is a grassroots organization that empowers low wage Filipino workers to fight for their labor, im/migration, health and gender rights. We provide critical services, build workers’ leadership, lead campaigns and support alliances to fight labor trafficking, labor fraud, wage theft and demand fair labor standards to achieve economic and social justice. WHAT WE STAND FOR ● Fair labor standards, livable wages and opportunities for economic stability. ● Protection, empowerment and family reunification for trafficking survivors. ● Respect and dignity for domestic work and for the women who do the work. ● Grassroots organizing and workers leadership for genuine social change. WHAT WE DO Damayan means “helping each other” in Filipino. To help each other, we work in the following areas: providing critical services and know your rights trainings; organizing a deep membership base and developing leaders from the grassroots; and mobilizing, building alliances and advocacy for enforcement or new laws for fair labor standards, and to fight labor trafficking. Each year we organize over 500 low wage workers to combat labor trafficking, wage theft, fraud in international labor contracting, and demand better working conditions and dignity. Majority of our members are undocumented women domestic workers who work in unprotected low-paying jobs as babysitters, nannies, housekeepers, elderly caregivers and in the hospitality industries.
