Gateshead Musical Theatre Company has been part of the cultural fabric of Gateshead since 1905. For more than a century, we have created a welcoming space where people of all ages can experience the joy, challenge, and connection that musical theatre brings. Today, we operate both adult and junior sections, offering structured opportunities for participants at different stages of life. Each year, we produce two full musical theatre productions for local audiences: an adult show in the spring and a junior show in the autumn. At the heart of our organisation is a deep commitment to inclusion. Our members range from 8 to 80, representing a wide variety of backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences. Everyone is welcomed, supported, and encouraged to grow. Participation provides meaningful benefits: members develop creative and technical skills, build confidence, and form lasting friendships within a safe, supportive community. A major focus of our work is youth development. Through rehearsals and performances, children and young people gain confidence, self‑esteem, communication skills, and teamwork experience. We see them flourish both on and off the stage, gaining skills that support their education, wellbeing, and future opportunities. Many of our young performers join at a time when they need a sense of belonging or a boost in confidence, and we are proud to watch them grow into resilient, expressive young adults.
