About us
Founded in 1971, Guildford Opera Company (GOC) is a volunteer-led charity dedicated to bringing high-quality, affordable opera to Guildford and the surrounding area. We are one of only two amateur societies in Surrey still regularly staging opera with a chorus and orchestra.
We present two fully-staged operas each year, combining the talents of our amateur chorus and volunteers with professional soloists, directors and orchestral musicians. Our productions range from much-loved classics to lesser-known works, offering local audiences a rich and varied programme on their doorstep.
We believe opera should be accessible to everyone. By performing in community venues, keeping ticket prices affordable, singing in English and providing surtitles, we aim to make opera welcoming and enjoyable for newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts alike.
Beyond our performances, GOC is a community of people brought together by a shared passion. We value the friendships, opportunities and sense of belonging that come from making music together, and celebrate the social and wellbeing benefits of participation in the arts.
GOC receives no regular public funding, so we rely on the generosity of our supporters to continue bringing opera to our community. Every donation helps us keep this extraordinary art form alive and accessible in Guildford.
