About us
How do you make Northampton stand out as a host during the Womens Rugby World Cup? The answer provided by the WI groups across Northamptonshire is to work with Womens World Cup Rugby to knit and sew a rugby-themed installation!
The challenge was taken up with the installation running through Northampton from St James Train station to Franklin's Gardens, the home ground of Northampton Saints, which is scheduled to host six matches.
The project, commissioned with support from World Rugby, West Northamptonshire Council, and Northampton Town Council, has grown significantly in scale since it was first proposed including a 27ft (8m) montage featuring two rugby teams playing.
'Legacy for Northamptonshire'
Due for completion by early August the key element is rugby, however the design also includes items representing Northampton such as the Lift Tower. The hope being it will be a legacy for Northamptonshire showing the county off at its best.
The WI has been fortunate to have received support from local businesses which has gone towards funding some of the materials required, further help is still needed. If you feel you can help and would like to be part of this great project to promote Northampton, and the WI please donate. Any amount would be welcome, and your support appreciated.
