Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page. The Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin has sat on the East Cliff above Whitby since 1110. For years this place of worship has been popular with visitors who climb the 199 church stairs to attend a service or explore St. Mary's, to pause for a moment's peace, to light a candle and say a prayer, to sit in her box pews, to see her galleries and hear her clock strike, keeping time for the town. Sadly, our clock is silent. The clock faces were removed in 2023 due to their delicate state and damage caused by age and harsh weather. The clock was installed in 1897 and we would dearly like it back to its former glory for its 130th Anniversary in 2027. We are now in a position to begin work on our clock faces but need your help. In order for Cumbria Clocks to recast new clock faces and complete all necessary repairs we need to raise at least £60,000. Once the clock is back in full working order and its faces are again visible to the town, any money left will be spent on the fabric of St. Mary's as the building has plenty of repair work still needed.
