Movie Review: Sex Drive

Follow Ian, Lance and Felicia as they take a cross country trip trying to find love for Ian who met a girl online and wants to have sex with her even though they have never met. I watched this movie for free on 123 movies.

Sex Drive stars Josh Zuckermen as Ian, Clarke Duke as Lance and Amanda Crew as Felicia who are all best of friends that are just making time until they move on in life. After graduating high school the three are waiting till the summer is over before moving on to college and have one hard time after another.

Ian is a hopeless nerd who works too hard at trying to impress girls and uses a photo shopped picture of himself to impress them on the internet. He finds one he likes who looks good but he constantly lies to her but she does want to meet him, go figure.

Ian takes off in his brothers 1969 GTO which he did not have permission to borrow and they travel across several states to meet the girl Ian met online. During their trip they have numerous stupid adventures like meeting a girl in a gas station that is crying so Lance takes her to her trailer home to have sex with her.

The girl's boyfriend arrives at the trailer looking for her and they barely get away without getting Lance run over by the boyfriend in his hopped up pickup truck. Their car is having engine problems and dies on a back road after using it to knock out the girl's boyfriend while driving thorugh a cornfield where Lance ran to get away from the crazy boyfriend. While stranded on a back country road Ian and Felicia walk to get help and Lance stays with the car only to encounter an Amish man who will help with repairing the car.

They get into further trouble after the car is fixed by when they get thrown into jail but get bailed out by an Amish girl that Lance fell in love with. Rex, Ian's brother played by James Marsden, finds them using the car's low jack and tries to stop Ian form meeting the girl but Ian lies to him and tells him he is gay to get his brother to let him see the girl.

Rex who was always accusing Ian of being gay lets him meet Ms. Tasty, played by Katrina Bowden, but she is just trying to scam them and steal their car. Ian saves the day, Ms. Tasty and her boyfriend go to jail and Ian figures out who he is really in love with and they all live happily ever after.

Sex Drive is a really stupid movie but it does have its slightly shining moments and funny parts, it tries much too hard to be funny using over the top humor. The movie uses sex, extremely embarrassing moments and over the top events to make jokes and poke fun at young adults and sex but not in a really funny way.

There are some good moments but the writers and producer/directors tried much too hard to bring those shining moments of friendship and funny situations to the big screen. I really think this movie should be avoided at all costs as it just does not make sense, one minute they are talking about how to be good and the next they do dumb jokes about sex.

The movie does a great job of making you laugh at times then they throw in really stupid jokes about homosexuality or parts of anatomy or other stupid topics that they should have left out. They are not just stupid jokes but just totally over the top dumb at times and other times they seem to throw in jokes for the shock value that fall flat.

Sex Drive Blu-ray edition comes with the theatrical version and the unrated version on the same Blu-ray disc as well as a making of feature and a few other bonus additions. The unrated version is even stupider than the theatrical release and totally not worth bothering with.

They add in really stupid swearing, dumb nude scenes and other material to add to the shock value that ends up being even worse than the theatrical version. This is a dumb movie made even worse by the unrated version that they even warn you not to watch if you have not watched the theatrical release.

This is probably because the unrated version is even dumber than the theatrical release and just adds to the question of why are you even watching this. Sex Drive is not that great a film to begin with but the unrated version is even dumber and both are a waste of time.
