Story
I'm cycling through 10 countries over 10 days - 1,000 miles in all - because I can. Such is the imbalance in privilege that I can do this where so many with needs far greater than mine cannot. I'm going to start this on 20th June - World Refugee Day - by crossing the channel on a small boat - just going the other way.
I'm doing this to fundraise for Asylum Speakers, a platform enabling the stories of asylum seekers and refugees to be able to be heard by many, many more at a time when they are so needed. So that people can get the real story, not the half truths and fear that seem to be given too much credence in our current media. Amplifying the voices of the people behind the statistics.
Asylum Speakers have the goal for every child in the UK to hear a story of displacement first hand. Their team of people with refugee status give talks in schools and universities. £300 pays for a session at a school, £10,000 will train the next cohort.
