I'm raising £5000 to walk 100 miles to London for local children & Scouts

Story

🥾 17 MILES. 22 MILES. 30 MILES. NOW… 100 MILES TO LONDON.

We're attempting to walk 100 miles from the Kent coast all the way to London to raise £5,000 for 1st Garlinge Scout Group — helping fund much-needed renovations and improvements to our Scout hut and grounds. ❤️

And this time, we don't just want people to donate.

We want you to follow us, share the journey and, if we're passing through your area, even come and walk part of it with us.

❤️ WHY ARE WE RAISING £5,000?

I'm a Squirrels leader at 1st Garlinge Scout Group, and I've seen first-hand what Scouting can give children and young people.

It's somewhere they can make friends, build confidence, learn new skills, try things they've never done before, have adventures and create memories that can stay with them for years.

But giving children those opportunities also means having somewhere safe, secure and suitable to do it.

And our Scout hut needs investment.

There are several significant projects and improvements that the group needs to raise money towards, including:

🚪 New doors for the Scout hut — we're currently getting quotes.

🚻 Upgrading the toilets — they're in need of updating.

🍳 Giving the kitchen some much-needed TLC.

🔒 Improving the fencing to make the grounds more secure.

🛠️ General renovations, repairs and upgrades to the hut and site.

These aren't necessarily the only things the money will be used for. Needs change, things break and other improvements may become priorities.

But one thing is certain:

There's a lot that needs doing — and raising the money to do it is going to take a serious fundraising effort.

So we've set ourselves a massive target:

🎯 £5,000

And if we're asking people to help us achieve something that big…

We thought we'd better do something pretty big ourselves.

💯 SO… WE'RE WALKING 100 MILES.

This didn't start with us deciding to walk to London.

Our walking challenges have slowly become more and more ridiculous.

It started with one question:

Could we walk to Canterbury in a single day?

❌ 17 MILES — WE FAILED.

Our first attempt ended after around 17 miles.

We didn't make it.

But instead of giving up, we came back and tried again.

✅ 22 MILES — WE MADE IT.

On our second attempt, we walked approximately 22 miles and successfully reached Canterbury in one day.

Challenge completed.

We could have stopped there.

We didn't.

✅ 30 MILES — DOVER.

Next came our biggest challenge yet.

We decided to walk to Dover.

Around 30 miles.

Around 17 hours.

All in one day.

And somehow…

WE MADE IT.

That walk became a fundraiser for 1st Garlinge Scout Group.

The night before we set off, we'd raised around £50.

Around another £200 was donated on the day of the walk.

And within roughly a week, something happened that we genuinely hadn't expected:

❤️ MORE THAN £1,000 WAS RAISED.

People donated.

People shared it.

People followed what we were doing.

And it made us wonder:

If we could achieve that with a 30-mile walk… what could happen if we went much, much bigger?

So here we are.

🥾 THANET ➡️ LONDON — ON FOOT.

Our planned route from Thanet on the Kent coast all the way to London is approximately 96 miles.

But there's one slight problem.

96 isn't 100. 😂

So reaching London isn't quite the end.

Once we're there, we're going to keep walking until our tracker reaches:

💯 100 MILES.

We've allowed ourselves up to seven days to complete the full challenge.

We're not promising a four-day finish, and we're not turning this into a race.

Completing all 100 miles is what matters.

Realistically, we'd love to complete it in around five days.

🔥 4 DAYS? That would be fantastic.

🤯 3 DAYS? That would be absolutely incredible — but we're definitely not making any promises!

THE CHALLENGE: 100 MILES WITHIN 7 DAYS.

However long it takes, we'll keep putting one foot in front of the other until we've done it.

🎁 YOUR DONATION CAN BECOME PART OF THE JOURNEY

We want to do something a little different this time.

Rather than somebody donating and that being the end of their involvement, we want our supporters to become part of our 100-mile story.

Every donation matters, regardless of the amount.

But we've also created some special thank-yous:

❤️ £50 — YOUR NAME JOINS THE WALK

Donate £50 and we'll write your name on our whiteboard.

We'll take a photo with your name wherever we've reached on our 100-mile journey and share it as part of our updates.

Your name will quite literally become part of the adventure.

🏆 £100 — FUNDRAISER CERTIFICATE

Donate £100 and we'll send you a special certificate recognising your support of our 100-mile fundraiser and 1st Garlinge Scout Group.

⚜️ £200 — FUNDRAISING BADGE

Donate £200 and we'll send you a fundraising badge as a special thank-you for making such an incredible contribution towards the campaign.

Where possible, we'll contact qualifying donors through JustGiving to arrange their reward.

❤️ AND PLEASE DON'T THINK YOU NEED TO DONATE £50.

£1 matters. £2 matters. £5 matters. £10 matters.

If thousands of people see this challenge and even a small percentage give a couple of pounds, those small donations can become something enormous.

🥾 WANT TO WALK WITH US?

You don't have to just watch us do it.

We're going to be walking through communities across Kent before eventually reaching London.

And if we're coming through your area:

COME AND WALK WITH US. ❤️

There is no minimum distance.

🥾 Join us for a couple of miles.

🥾 Walk 5 miles.

🥾 Take on 10 or 20 miles.

🥾 Spend a whole day walking with us.

🥾 Or, if you're feeling particularly brave, join us for even more.

You absolutely do not need to attempt the full 100 miles.

I'll be setting up a Messenger group chat for people interested in joining us.

Throughout the challenge I'll provide updates about where we are, where we're heading and our progress along the route.

👉 MESSAGE ME ON FACEBOOK TO JOIN:

Because we're covering a lot of ground every day, we won't be able to stop for long periods or wait for people to arrive.

Instead, we'll keep everyone updated so you can see where we are, work out where we're heading and meet us somewhere along the route.

Plans and timings may change as the challenge progresses, so please check the latest updates before travelling to meet us.

And even if you don't want to walk:

If we're passing through your town and you spot us, come and say hello! 👋

A bit of encouragement could make a massive difference when we're 70 miles in and our feet have had enough!

🙌 CAN'T DONATE? PLEASE SHARE.

We completely understand that not everybody is in a position to donate.

You can still make a huge difference without spending a penny.

Share our Facebook posts.

Tell your friends.

Post it in your community.

Because you never know who might see it.

Someone might donate £2.

Someone else might give £20.

Another person might sponsor £200.

A local business might decide to support us.

A newspaper or radio station might discover what we're doing.

And somebody might simply share it again.

One share can travel much further than we ever could on foot.

❤️ For 1st Garlinge Scout Group

The walk will last a matter of days.

But new doors, improved toilets, a better kitchen, more secure grounds and other renovations and improvements could benefit children and young people for years to come.

100 miles is going to hurt.

But that's temporary.

What we could achieve for the Scout group could last for years.

That's why we're doing it.

We've gone from failing at 17 miles…
