Story

What a story we have for you! Three friends are sat in the audience at the biggest A Cappella competition in the country, the ICCA UK Final, back in 2020. Recently graduated, Rob, Charley and George decided they were going to create a new kind of A Cappella show for the Edinburgh Fringe. This little idea sparked our creativity and we wrote the A Cappella show of our dreams, 1001 Open Mic Nights!

You may know some of the team from their previous work in the A Cappella world or this could be your first experience of singing without instruments. We're raising money to secure our venue at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2021. Our group of 16 performers have been rehearsing virtually for the show and we are currently learning lines, deciding costumes and sourcing set to make our show the best it can be.

This show follows the dynamic relationship between Liv and Nina, set to the backdrop of a bustling karaoke bar. Over the space of one night, we get to know the club’s quirky regulars, and see how communication - or the lack of - can affect friendship. We started this group of emerging creatives in September 2020 to connect those within the UK A Cappella community and those who have never experienced A Cappella singing before, through music. A big positive that has come out of the need for remote learning during the pandemic is how far we have been able to cast our net to get the chance to work with talent that stretches the length of the country.

We are hopeful that Edinburgh Fringe will be able to go ahead in August 2021 and we are keeping up to date with the Fringe Society for information about their plans for the festival. If the Fringe is forced to cancel, we are planning on using any funds raised to gather our performers and professionally record our expertly arranged music and original narrative in order to release a video for you all to enjoy!

We appreciate any and all attention our crowdfunding can attract. After all that has happened this past year, and you're not in the position to donate we would love if you could share our page with your friends and family. Follow along with our journey to Edinburgh Fringe @1001omn on Instagram!
