Rowing Together for Healthy Minds

"Rowing Together for Healthy Minds (RTHM), was started in memory of René Zamudio, who took his own life in January 2017. René learnt to row as an undergrad at Bristol University before continuing his studies and training at Imperial College. René shone with confidence and charisma, and his death was a colossal shock, as for many similar cases, he was the last person you would think to be suffering from mental health issues.

René Zamudio’s loss will always be felt. RTHM aspires to raise the profile of mental health in rowing, to inform athletes and coaches about the symptoms of depression and other disorders, and ultimately to make it easier for someone like René to reach out for help in future".

Royal Agricultural University Boat Club has recently started rowing at Gloucester Rowing Club. We train six times a week on the water, and are starting to compete at large events - especially the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Head and Regatta.

However, although we do have one coxed four person rowing boat in the club, we need certain equipment that our university allowance budget does not allow. Nearly all of the university allowance is spent on paying Gloucester Rowing Club to allow the students to row at their site; the next step is to provide equipment that allows the students to fulfil their full potentials and get the most out of rowing.

To fundraise for both of these causes, there will be a 100 metre challenge on the Concept 2 ergometer, to find out who is the fastest. This will be held in a prominent place at the university. All money will be split between the two causes, with 70% going towards RTHM.

If you are at the university and are interested in rowing (the best sport in the world... although we would say that!!) either find us on Facebook or email;
