Story
My name is George Heming and I'm 18 years old.
I was accepted onto the Clipper Race (www.clipperroundtheworld.com) back in September which was a huge moment for me as I have been wanting to sail round the world for many years, after growing up on the water, sailing in the UK every summer.
The Clipper Race is the biggest round-the-world ocean race, and is also regarded as one of the toughest endurance challenges on the planet. It’s going to be a huge mental and physical challenge for me to undertake but I am determined to succeed. I will be sailing over 40,000 nautical miles, visiting 13 countries, sailing across the toughest oceans that not many people venture to.
During my life I have been noticing the way beaches have increasingly being filled with litter, especially plastic. So when I knew I was accepted onto the race I wanted to go one step further and set up a campaign where I would be collecting plastic. That’s when 100 Tons of Plastic was born.
My goal is to sail round the world in the 2019 Clipper Race knowing that I have helped clear the oceans of 100 Tons of Plastic.
I need to raise £50,000 in total to be able to sail round the world and keep 100 Tons of Plastic going. With your help, this can become a reality.
Thank you, George x
