12 Hour Charity Rave-a-thon
On the 24th of Oct 2020, I am doing a 12 hour raving charity event. Where I rave/dance for 12 hours, at home, without stopping or sitting down, to help raise money for the Kasintuwu English Project.
In March 2020, we volunteered on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia and fell in love with the amazing work being done by the Kasintuwu English Project. This project was created from scratch, by five local young people, from the tiny remote village of Kasintuwu, as the government don’t give English lessons beyond the most basic level here. This caused the founders to become very concerned about the future of the local children. After a genuinely life changing week staying with the organisers and teaching the local school kids, I vowed to help them raise the money they vitally need.
Our target sum will be just enough money for them to build a second hut at the school, where they will house visiting volunteers from abroad, teach the children, create an English book library and run their English summer camp. The first school hut is the one in the picture above. By bringing in native English-speaking volunteers to the village, it will also help teach English to both the staff and children and enable them to learn about other cultures. Speaking English is very important for the future of these children, as it gives the best chance of getting jobs, to earn money and then support their families. Without English their chances for jobs are very limited indeed.
This project is so important as it is run by local volunteers, in their free time free time and crucially gives all their English lessons for free. They regularly teach 5 different classes of primary school kids, between 7 and 11 years of age, in total around 50 children. The schoolhouse has a garden too, so they are able to teach the children about nature, sustainable living and organic agriculture. With the school buildings complete, the project can fully support the local children and teach them English through the whole year, including throughout their long rainy season.
Thanks again for any donations you can spare, for by donating you are giving a brighter future and a world of opportunities, to children in rural Indonesia.
