Story
What are we doing?
The longest professional tennis match in history lasted 11hrs 5mins, set at Wimbledon in 2010.
So what better way to cure the coronavirus boredom than to organise a TWELVE hour long tennis match, for the two charities below.
I will be staying on for the whole 12 hours, as the other players will swap on and off. I'll keep track of the score: my team vs my opponent - and if we hit our target, I may do some form of forfeit if I lose.
We've set a fundraising target for each person to raise at least £25, but it would be great if you could help us reach our £1000 goal in order to help these two deserving causes.
There are still spaces, so let me know if you'd like to get involved.
1. International: UNICEF in the Yemen Crisis:
80% of Yemen’s population are in need of humanitarian aid and protection.
Yemen is facing a major humanitarian crisis. A devastating conflict has left children and families in urgent need of food, water and medical supplies.
UNICEF is concerned about the spread of coronavirus in Yemen. Only one in three people have access to running water, very few people have soap, and many healthcare facilities are closed or only able to provide a very basic services.
"Unicef is on the ground working around the clock to protect children in Yemen. Since the start of the crisis, they have helped to reach more than 4 million children with over 3,000 tonnes of life-saving supplies, including life-saving therapeutic food, safe drinking water and health care supplies.
However, UNICEF simply don’t have enough funds to reach every child in danger. Your support will also help to ensure that displaced children do not miss out on an education. Through Unicef-supported schools and child-friendly spaces, children can continue their schooling and receive psychosocial care and support to help them cope with distress and trauma."
2. Local: East Cheshire Hospice
As a result of the pandemic, many smaller charities have suffered due to a drop in government funding and public donations. Although, large amounts have been donated to the NHS, it has diluted income for other charities.
Since 1988, East Cheshire Hospice has been caring for people suffering from life-limiting illnesses. We put our patients, their carers and families at the centre of everything we do, and our expert medical treatment is only the start of the holistic care we provide.
