Taking on Tough Mudder for Carter’s Sunflowers

On the 4th of July, Rosie’s Uncle Lewis, and I are taking on the 15km Tough Mudder challenge— a muddy, obstacle-filled challenge — to raise money for this incredible nursery that has made such a difference to our family, Carters Sunflowers.

Rosie is our beautiful little girl who see’s the world in her own unique way. She is autistic, and currently non-verbal, which means communication and everyday situations can be very challenging for her. She has not always formed bonds easily and takes her time getting to know and feel comfortable around new people. Despite this, Rosie is such a happy and cheeky little girl who brings so much joy to our family❤️ Finding a place where she feels safe, calm and seen for the amazing girl she is has meant the world to us. Rosie has formed amazing bonds with multiple staff and it’s great to see how happy she is whilst she is there.

As parents of a child with additional needs, the journey can sometimes feel overwhelming. Everyday things that many families take for granted — simple outings, changes to routine, or busy environments — can bring real challenges, and at times it can feel quite isolating not knowing where to turn for the right support. That’s why finding Carter’s Sunflowers has meant so much to us. Not only have they created a place where Rosie feels safe, understood and supported, but they have also built a community for families like ours. Knowing we’re surrounded by people who truly understand our journey, and having their guidance and support along the way, has made such a positive difference.

Carter’s Sunflowers is a nurturing and supportive environment for children with Autism, Social Communication needs and related conditions. It’s a place where every child is understood, accepted for who they are and heard — even if they don’t yet have the words — and where families like ours finally feel supported. Despite providing specialist care that requires more staffing, equipment and support than a typical nursery, they receive the same funding as any other PVI nursery and rely heavily on fundraising to continue their work.
