Story

The 1st Mendlesham Scout Group has, this year, celebrated the 90th anniversary of its first registration, and for the past 45 years has been actively supporting the local communities.

The Group’s old (1947) building had to be demolished due to the ravages of time, leaving the youngsters and their volunteer leaders to hire temporary venues for their regular meetings.

In order to rectify this situation, the Group members have been doggedly fundraising for sufficient to erect a new, eco-friendly, cost effective, efficient and attractive building to replace their lost “home”.

To date the Group have accumulated almost £26,000 towards their goal but it is a long, uphill slog; applications are in preparation for a community award from the National Lottery, a number of charitable foundations, trusts and philanthropic individuals.

Plans have been drawn up and investigations made into the feasibility of a log cabin style of building which, it is felt, will meet the need and easily fit into the local rural environment where it will also be available for the previously popular community activities to be resurrected
