Story
1st Point Cubs and Beavers are raising money for an AED Defibrillator machine to be installed at their local beauty spot, Bayble Beach.
Bayble Beach is a stunning area in the Point district of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. It is well loved and used by locals and visitors alike.
As a popular and well frequented location we feel there should be an AED on hand should an emergency medical situation arise that requires its use.
In order to have the best chance of surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest a patient needs to receive CPR and early defibrillation within 3-4 minutes of the heart attack. Currently the nearest defib machine to Bayble Beach is a 40 minute walk away, or a 5 minute drive along a single track road. It's located at the local primary school, Sgoil an Rubha.
This is too far away for anyone to receive timely assistance.
Our Beavers have already raised £500 doing a sponsored knot tie a few months ago. Now the Cubs want to raise the final £1000 by doing a walk and litter pick from Sgoil an Rubha to Bayble Beach. We're passionate about keeping our local area and beaches clean too!
We'll be walking and litter picking on the evening of June 12th so if you're local and see us give us a wave.
Meanwhile please donate to our very worth cause - it could be you or someone you care about who needs that defib one day.
(If by chance we raise more than £1000 then any extra will go towards ongoing maintenance and if hugely more than £1000 we'll look at where to put another defib in the community - now wouldn't that be awesome!)
